Bemidji State University (BSU) invites applicants to join our team as the Associate Director of Advising & Success Systems. The Associate Director provides lead advising support for a designated academic college (The College of Creativity, Enterprise, and Place), while also carrying an assigned academic advising caseload within appropriate standards/expectation. In addition, this position will serve as the department’s Student Success Center (SSC) administrator for the BSU student success platform (EAB Navigate). The Associate Director will do significant work to maximize the value and usage of this tool for staff and faculty, along with the responsibility of increasing student usage. The Associate Director will work in collaboration with the Executive Director of Student Success Center, with ongoing training/continued training for Core Academic Advisors and all staff in SSC on the student success platform. Within the student success platform, it is the Associate Director’s duty to manage reports, automation and data analysis along with work to further enhance student success initiatives.
Responsibilities of the Associate Director of Advising & Success Systems include:
- Supervising of Core Advisors for the College of Creativity, Enterprise, and Place. (50%)
- Responsible for leading, overseeing, and implementing Core Advising principles within the assigned College of Creativity, Enterprise, and Place. Providing supervision to assigned Core Advisors for this college, whose assignments and advising caseloads to all undergraduate students will be managed under the discretion of the Associate Director of Advising & Systems, in alignment with appropriate caseload standards. Developing and maintaining the core advising model materials and training for new staff/advisors.
- Directing the training, professional development, case load, and accountability of assigned college Core Advisors to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality student support and advising for students at BSU – both core curriculum and program/major specific.
- Collaborating closely with the Dean of the college and Department Chairs to gain a thorough understanding of the curriculum and the distinct needs of each school within the college. Remaining current with all curriculum changes and updates, effectively communicating these developments to the Core Advisors within the college as well as to the Office of Student Success & Completion (SSC) to maintain coherence and alignment across advising services.
- Championing Faculty-Student Mentorship Initiatives. Maintaining a close pulse on the faculty connection that students have and how this relationship within their program can elevate their success.
- Application and Content Administrator of Student Success Platform (EAB Navigate) Technology. (35%)
- Software support and oversight of the SSC Student Success Platform (EAB Navigate).
- Managing and overseeing the university’s early-alert student success platform, which helps with student outreach and support through alerts, holds, warnings, progress reports, and other tools. Providing training and assistance to faculty and staff and ensuring that data related to academic advising and student success is collected, maintained, and shared to support informed decision-making.
- Designing, implementing, and continuously enhancing a student success team model that supports student progress, retention, and graduation outcomes. In addition, developing and analyzing reports to measure student retention from term to term, year to year, and across longer timeframes to assess and improve the effectiveness of core advising efforts.
- When available, evaluating and incorporating technological advancements within the platform or through integrations to enhance student support and improve overall system effectiveness.
- New Student Registration Support and Planning. (10%)
- Collaborating with the Associate Director of Advising & the RISE Program, coordinating with the Office of Admissions at BSU to plan and implement New Student Registration each year. This includes organizing logistics such as printed materials, marketing communications and logistics, technology integration, space reservations, and other related needs.
- Other duties. (5%)
- Assisting with planning, facilitating, and assessing anti-racism, equity, and inclusion professional development experiences on campus.
- Actively participating in department, division, and university programs/visits (e.g., new student registration and orientation events, academic/career exploration and job/internship fairs).
- Serving on various university, system, and community committees and work groups as appropriate and when assigned by the Executive Director of Student Success Center
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications for this position include:
- Master’s degree plus three (3) years of professional work experience in academic support/advising or a closely related field, OR Bachelor’s degree plus four (4) years of professional work experience in academic support/advising or a closely related field, OR equivalent combination of post-secondary training, education, and/or professional experience.
- Experience with data and software development systems that support and aid in student success
- A demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism including experience working with and supporting diverse student populations.
- Strong communication, administrative, presentation, and organizational skills.
- An ability to work collaboratively with faculty, student affairs educators, and students.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Three (3) years of progressive professional experience in academic advising, student success, enrollment management, or related higher education roles.
- Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, or leading professional and/or student staff in a college or university setting.
- Proficiency with student information systems and advising technologies, preferably including EAB Navigate, ISRS, and Perceptive Content.
- Knowledge of or experience working within the Minnesota State system, including familiarity with system policies, procedures, and reporting practices.
- Experience designing or managing advising workflows, early alert systems, or student support campaigns using data and technology tools.
- Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills, with a focus on collaboration across academic and student service units.
