ITS3 Classrom Technology Manager

Bemidji State University (BSU) and Northwest Technical College (NTC) invite applicants to join our Information Technology Services (ITS) team as a Classroom Technology Manager
 
The Classroom Technology Manager designs, implements, supports and maintains inventory for Bemidji State University (BSU) and Northwest Technical College (NTC) classroom technology, including the application of educational technology resources, classroom presentation technologies, hyflex classrooms, Zoom rooms, and campus digital signage. The Classroom Technology Manager is also responsible for educating and training faculty, students, and staff in the use of classroom and educational technology, and for coordinating and overseeing special events on campus requiring technology assistance.
 
Responsibilities of the Classroom Technology Manager include:  

  • Providing timely support and maintenance for classrooms and conference rooms with installed technology. Supported by the accurate and detailed use of ITSM tools, they will define, research, analyze, and document problems to determine the appropriate course of action for rapid resolution. Providing support for meetings, conferences, and other campus events. Proactively working with event coordinators to provide technical support for meetings, conferences, and other campus events. Using the event management system and ITSM tools, ensuring that equipment is available, delivered, tracked, and set up in locations as needed. Percent of Time:40%
  • Using comprehensive record keeping, maintaining a detailed inventory of all equipment, and ensuring adequate spare parts are kept on hand. Ensuring all security updates and maintenance schedules for all classroom and conference room equipment are applied in a timely manner. Maintaining positive and cooperative relationships with various vendors, assisting with repairs and in new equipment installations or upgrades. Percent of Time:  25%
  • Educating and training faculty, students, and staff in the use of classroom and educational technology. This position creates clear, coherent, and concise documentation which includes instructions to use equipment, troubleshooting guides, and best practices. Percent of Time:  15%
  • Coordinating with Campus Leadership, Information Technology Services, and other applicable departments, the Classroom Technology Manager ensures that long-term modifications to technology infrastructure at Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College are made to support the academic technology plan and the comprehensive security plan. Also assisting with identifying and resolving physical, programmatic, and communication barriers that prevent individuals with disabilities from accessing services and opportunities in the classroom. Percent of Time:10%
  • Professional development and continuous improvement will be obtained by attending conferences or participating in training classes, acquiring knowledge of current technology trends by reviewing trade publications and software and hardware documentation, and participating in professional IT organizations through personal attendance, e-mails, and newsletters. Percent of Time:  5%
  • Performing other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintaining the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner. Percent of Time:5% 
Minimum qualifications for this position include:
  • Three (3) years of experience providing technical support in a higher education environment.
  • Advanced computer hardware, software and networking knowledge sufficient to analyze, troubleshoot, and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Working knowledge of classroom technologies, including smart boards, lecture capture and video streaming devices, audio and video conferencing systems, and mobile device integration sufficient to coordinate, analyze, troubleshoot, and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Able to analyze, plan, design, develop, implement and maintain a complex classroom technology environment.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
  • Ability to establish priorities on multiple projects to meet deadlines while paying attention to details.
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team, as well as independently toward assigned goals. 
Preferred qualifications include:  
  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional media and technology or a similar degree.
  • Three (3) years of experience providing Classroom technology support in a higher education environment.
  • Crestron or Extron programing experience.
  • Demonstrated skills with critical and strategic thinking, planning, project management, and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills sufficient to write technical documentation in a concise manner and convey technical information using non-technical language.
  • Administrator or report writer experience in an event management system.
